Member contributions to the Washington DC Post and to the Society at large do not go unnoticed. The Washington DC Post encourages, nourishes, and recognizes our member participation with Awards that are given out during our Annual Awards Ceremony. The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) also recognizes outstanding contributions by individual SAME members and companies at the Annual SAME National Awards ceremony during the SAME National Conference.

Leadership has been an integral part of the Washington DC Post's success over the years. The Washington DC Post leadership team includes our Post Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs, as well as our many Washington DC Post members. Together, we make a difference! Making a difference does not go unnoticed. The national SAME Annual Awards Ceremony also recognizes outstanding SAME Posts with awards. The Washington DC Post continues to rank as a large Distinguished Post in the Society.

2004 SAME National Awards (service year 2003)

Grand Slam (Large Post): The Washington DC Post won all SAME Streamers (Education, Programs, Readiness, Membership, Communications, Knowledge Management, Swimmer, Young Members, and met the '02 financials filing criteria).

The Washington DC Post was the only large SAME Post in the Middle Atlantic Region to win a Grand Slam Post at the 2004 SAME annual awards ceremony (service year 2003).

The Middle Atlantic Region was only one of four SAME Regions to win Distinguished Region at the 2004 SAME annual awards ceremony (service year 2003), out of a total of 16 SAME regions. The other three SAME Regions were New England, Ohio Valley, and Texoma. Congratulations to all!

Recognition of a SAME Region is attributable to the hard work and initiatives led at the local SAME Posts of that region.

Here is an overview of how the Washington DC Post helped the Middle Atlantic Region meet the Distinguished Region criteria in 2003:

Region criteria: At least 50 % of the Posts were awarded Distinguished Post Streamer

Region criteria: Regions membership showed a net growth in either category (for 2003 only)

Region criteria: The Region Hosted a National or Region Conference in the past 24 months or participated in a Joint conference with another Region

Washington DC Post Hosts the 2002 Middle Atlantic Region Conference, Bethesda, MD

Region criteria: At Least 66% or 2/3 of the Posts have submitted their Financial Report for the prior year

Washington DC Post Submitted its 2002 Financial Report

Region criteria: The Region nominated at least one individual for a National Medal or Award for the previous year
