Michael G. Pavlides Scholarship Challenge Fund Raising Drive
Mike Pavlides, a Post Director, has offered the DC Post a generous monetary gift to seed a scholarship. The minimum amount to establish a named scholarship at the DC Post is $20,000, so the Post has announced a fund raising drive to raise the remaining amount.
Mike, Director of Federal Services with Brown and Caldwell, has been an Officer of the DC Post for the past 10 years and a major proponent of our Scholarship Program. As Post President in 2006, he introduced a plan to energize our Scholarship Program and founded our Scholars and Honor Gala. The Gala, which was held between 2006 and 2008, raised $120K for our Scholarship Fund. And as a result of his plan the DC Post has increased the amount and number of annual scholarships awarded.
Your generous support is requested to help us meet the scholarship challenge that Mike has offered us.
To make a tax-deductible donation to the Michael Pavlides Scholarship Fund Drive please make checks payable to the SAME Washington DC Post and send your donations to:

2012 USA Science and Engineering Festival – Volunteers Needed
Save the date for the upcoming USA Science and Engineering Festival taking place on the National Mall from April 27 through April 29 of 2012. The Expo is the nation’s largest celebration of all things science and engineering, which drew more than half a million attendees in 2010, and features over 1,500 hands-on activities and over 75 performances. New programs have been added too!
Based on last year’s success, the DC Post with the support of SAME National is hosting a booth again in 2012. Michelle Martin of Loiederman Soltesz Associates, Inc. is chairing the DC Post Festival Committee and is recruiting volunteers. All members are welcome to volunteer to assist with planning, man the booth, or both. Furthermore, as co-chair of the Young Member Committee along with Katherine Ollinger of EYP Architecture and Engineering, Michelle is encouraging all SAME DC Post Young Members to participate. Last year’s booth entertained hundreds of children and adults alike with exciting hands-on demonstrations including Clark Construction’s “solar powered Halloween” and EYP’s proton-powered toy car. The 2012 Festival Committee strives to feature even more hands-on activities.
For more information visit the USA Science and Engineering Festival website.
To learn how to get involved and volunteer for the 2012 DC Post Festival Committee, please contact Michelle Martin.
