An Opportunity Within Our Grasp
Higher Levels of Success Are Possible
Greetings and welcome to the SAME Washington DC Post, the Society's largest post! It's an honor that you have entrusted the presidency of this Post to me for 2005. I will dedicate my personal best to this leadership role and, with everyone's help, will take full advantage of the momentum gained last year and meet the goals set for this year. Together, we have a great opportunity to surge to new heights and seize an opportunity that's within our grasp. First, we need to recognize the great efforts of James Peck, 2004 SAME Washington DC Post President, the Post Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, and all those who helped in hundreds of ways. With the dedication and hard work of this leadership team, the Post leaped to new professional heights and completed a full integration of the SAME Strategic Plan and all of SAME's policy changes and initiatives in 2004. They brought the Post out in front as a model post, and as the leader in implementing new SAME directives. As a result, the Washington DC Post made significant contributions to the goals of our Post and to the entire Society. 2004 was a year like never before, and 2005 promises to be even better!
Looking ahead, the Washington DC Post's objectives for 2005 include the following.
- Provide value to our members, our community, and our nation.
- Conduct programs that meet member needs and expectations.
- Be an organization people want to join and enjoy being a part of.
- Facilitate interaction with local firms, agencies, and organizations.
- Foster additional dialog between the post and post members.
- Encourage member participation on post committees.
- Support and grow the post's scholarship program.
- Increase corporate sponsorships of post programs and events.
- Continue mentoring college and high school students.
- Increase recognition of the post and post members.
With success in these and other objectives, we envision the opportunity to be recognized as the Society's 2005 Top Post. Just recently, the SAME Washington DC Post was recognized by the Society as a Distinguished Post for the last 3 consecutive years, in 2003, 2002 and 2001, and in 1999! We now await the results for 2004 and hope that we have once again attained all SAME streamers (swards) with distinction.
Top Post will signify that the SAME Washington DC Post has worked very hard to lead up to this pinnacle, not only in 2005 but during the course of the last few years. The SAME Washington DC Post continuously proves that it is visionary in the way it integrates all SAME strategic initiatives to its Post operations, incorporates innovation to its outreach and communication strategies and sets an example for other Posts to emulate! The Washington DC Post believes that post level operations and member participation is critical to the success of the entire Society.
TOP POST -- an ambitious 2005 goal that's well within our reach!
We plan to continue our outstanding programs and seminars, provide additional professional development opportunities for our young members, and continue our community outreach and education initiatives.
The SAME Washington DC Post is a fantastic and meaningful organization that is on the move! I challenge you to be engaged and help make it happen. This ambitious opportunity is within our grasp!
