Post President's Mid-Year Review

I am pleased to report on the following recent activities of the SAME Washington DC Post.

Status of Our Proposal to Host the 2011 SAME National Education and Training Conference
The SAME Washington DC and Northern VA Posts recently submitted a proposal to host the 2011 SAME National Conference. The submittal was followed by a field trip attended by members of the Northern Virginia Post and Washington DC Post Proposal Committee, along with Steve Shepard from SAME HQ in the capacity of SAME National Conference Task Force advisor. We visited the Gaylord National Resort and Spa construction site at National Harbor.

Many thanks to Scott Griffin from Gaylord National for hosting this tour and to Gaylord management staff for their hospitality. The Gaylord National is a great selection for the conference venue and National Harbor will become a fantastic entertainment center for the DC Region. The field trip was followed by a conference interview on 27 April, with the SAME National Conference Task Force. The wining Post entry to host the 2011 SAME National Conference will be announced at the SAME National Conference in New Orleans.

A very special thanks to URS and their support staff for the significant time and contributions made to prepare our proposal and design the conference logo and graphics, and to Donna Vereb who was our Proposal Leader. Donna did a fantastic job for us. Thank You!

Washington DC Post MENTOR Program
Please read the in-depth article on the importance of participating in the SAME Washington DC Post MENTOR Program (Link this link to the following web page and post the MENTOR Program article I sent there) . Young members and mentors are welcome to sign up online to participate in this program. Expanding our cadre of mentors and conducting professional mentoring sessions for our young members is an important mission element we strive to uphold. This year, the SAME Washington DC Post plans to include a number of young member mentoring programs in conjunction with the MENTOR program.

Streamer Awards
I am pleased to report that the Washington DC Post won all SAME Streamers with Distinction and is being recognized as a Distinguished Post for 2005 at the SAME Conference in New Orleans. This is a tribute to the vision of 2005 SAME Washington DC Post President Tony Maida, ret. USAF, last year's Board of Directors, committee chairs, and committee members. Many thanks also go out to you, our members, for your continued support. Congratulations!

2006 Corporate Sponsorship Drive
Soon you will receive at letter announcing the annual SAME Washington DC Post corporate sponsorship drive. I urge you to strongly consider becoming a sponsor of our post this year. The SAME Washington DC Post will be adversely affected by a change in the national SAME membership post dues structure and your support this year and contributions will help us offset this dramatic change.

It is hard to believe we are almost half way through 2006. The SAME Washington DC Post remains a very active post that continues to improve and bring more value to our members. We work hard to continue to bring programs and activities of interest and value to you.

If you have any recommendations on how we can improve or if you have ideas for upcoming programs please let me know.
