Dedicated to National Security and Global Outreach
As we make our way through 2005, we see great progress being made in all our SAME Washington DC Post annual goals and objectives. This is fantastic news because it means we are accomplishing what we set out to do at the beginning of the year, and move closer to meet the needs of our members. The Washington DC Post’s commitment to our members, to our Society, to our industry, to our local communities, to our National Security and to global SAME partnerships is resolute! At home, the SAME Washington DC Post continues to show that its support of the SAME
Strategic Plan and Post Operations goals and objectives is unwavering!
This success is the result of the hard work and perseverance of our Board of Directors and the continued support of our members. Together, we are committed to go beyond immediate expectations and deliver quality programs and excellent benefits to our members.
At the 2005 SAME Joint Engineer Education & Training Conference and Expo
held in Louisville, KY, the Washington DC Post was recognized with four National
Streamers (Awards) – each with Distinction. We were one of only two SAME Posts
nationwide to achieve this milestone!
This reflects the dedication and hard work of our members and committees who donated their time and talent to our programs in 2004. Hats off to all of them. In addition, one of our Post’s young members was recognized with a national SAME award. LCDR Eileen D’Andrea was awarded the Outstanding Young Member of the Year award. What an outstanding achievement for an outstanding member of our Post who did so much to advance the value of our organization. Congratulations Eileen! Eileen was instrumental in 2004, and continuous to be today, in our Post’s National Security and Readiness initiatives. Her dedication and commitment to excellence gave our Post the leverage to expand our National Security and Readiness outreach initiatives.
Many members from our Post went to the conference, where they attended excellent professional development programs and networking opportunities. Many thanks to the Kentuckiana Post for putting on a stellar national conference! This unique venue was also a great opportunity to get to know SAME members from other Posts, and share ideas on programs and Post operation strategies. Another success story is our 2005 Scholarship Golf Tournament, where our Post raised a record $15,000 for our Scholarship Program!
This reflects the hard work of our golf tournament committee, the generosity of our corporate sponsors, and the contributions of all those who played. James Peck, McDonough Bolyard Peck, our tournament chairman, continues to expand our annual golf tournament, and plans to do even more in the coming year! As we’ve said all along, our members are the reason our Post is so successful. Therefore, everything we do, our programs, our member benefits, and our communication resources and tools, are aimed to give our members the best value for their membership. The Washington DC Post is committed to continue to grow our membership, and not only remain the largest Post in the Society, but also the Post that encourages open communication, innovation and collaboration with other SAME Posts. We are positioned to continue to be a strong and enduring organization.
That said, we adjusted our membership committee to meet the effort level needed to reach our increased membership goal. With 1,400 members strong, we need additional support to reach out to new members, and continue to make contact with existing members. Max Kantzer, A. Morton Thomas and Associates, is our individual membership chair. Assisting his efforts are LCDR Phil Lodge, Naval Civil Engineer Corps, and Mark Farmer, Cannon Design.
Tracy Allen, ECS Limited, is our sustaining membership chair. We thank them for their time and support of our new members this year. Our board of directors will do its part to assist with any member inquires, and our member feedback portal is always open to our members to send questions and inquiries.
Also, our Post’s community outreach initiatives are ongoing. We continue to participate in education and community programs that benefit many in our area. We will soon publish our public outreach initiatives to include working with Project Lead the Way which is a program at several High Schools in the region that focus class work in the engineering and architecture programs as a way to foster the younger generation's interest in these careers. More to come on this.
Abroad, the Washington DC Post is looking for an opportunity to help members of a sister post and their families. Specifically, we want to reach out to our troops in the Baghdad Post and their families in some appropriate way. We’ll provide more information on this global outreach initiative in the near future.
We are always looking at ways to improve, so please let us know if you have a recommendation, or if you would like to get involved. Just let one of our board members know. We look forward to continued success in 2005 and beyond! Thank you for being a member of our Post!
