This annual event is made possible with your generous contributions throughout the year, with your sponsorships and support of our Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, and other events that raise funds for our Scholarship Program.
Many thanks to Al O'Konski (URS), SAME Washington DC Post Scholarship Program Chair, for taking the time each year to review nominations received, meet in committee to select the award recipients, and plan the Scholars and Honors Gala.
Also, Jennifer Norton (URS) was instrumental in working out all the logistics for the venue and making sure that this event included all the program elements that were planned for. In addition, we would like to thank all those who organized the DONOR Scholarship Program Reception. Many thanks to Murphy Tuomey (A. Morton Thomas) for her initiative to get the Donor Reception going.
The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is dedicated to:
"actively pursue the educational aspects of the engineering profession, with emphasis on mentoring, student scholarships, high school and college outreach programs, and continued professional development of its membership"
The Washington DC Post is committed to fulfill this mission statement. Over the years, with many hours of dedicated fundraising, we now have an estimated $300,000 Scholarship Fund. Over the last 10 years, the Washington DC Post has awarded over 70 Scholarships for over $87,000.
We thank you for your continued support, for your feedback, for your trust in our strategic planning, and for your support of the Society of American Military Engineers mission - Support to National Defense. Each time we host our Scholars and Honors Gala, we are reminded of how important it is to make the effort and invest in the younger generation of industry professionals. We were there once and it is important to mobilize and give back as much as we are able to.
The SAME Washington DC Post makes no excuses for pushing forward, trying to do more, exceeding expectations, and striving to undertake strategic initiatives that at first glance may seem too far fetched. But with advance planning, excellent leadership and participation from our Officers and Board of Directors, and from contributions from our members, we are able to move forward in our strategic initiatives and continue to challenge the status quo.
We always welcome your feedback and of course additional volunteers.
We look forward to seeing you again at future SAME Washington DC Post programs and of course at our 2009 Scholars and Honors Gala! Thank you for your continued support!
