SAME Washington DC Post Scholarship Golf Tournament Sets New Record

Overcoming floods that caused the tournament to be postponed two weeks, and thunderstorms on the rescheduled date, the DC Post raised over $21, 000 for its scholarship fund! Over 120 participants braved the thunderstorms that ultimately abbreviated the tournament - but helped get dinner served early on July 12th at The Courses at Andrews Air Force Base.

In a very close finish (the top 3 teams were separated by only one stroke), the team of Steve Iselin, Director of Planning at Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Matt Carroll (Fluor), Dennis Biddick (Fluor), and James Peck (MBP) taking first place; the team of LCDR Brian Clapp (NAVFAC Washington), Blake Peck (MBP) and Todd Blaszak (HSMM) taking second place; and the team of Fred Parker (Turner), Phil Riddle (Turner), Wais Jalali (Mona), and Tim Ward (MPS) took 3rd place. Bert Pechold (USACE Bay Area Office) won the Closest to the Pin contest, and Salvatore Ambrosino (Dupont) won the Long Drive Contest. And Max Kantzer (AMT) won the 50/50 raffle prize of $200 cash!

Special thanks to our major sponsors (PDF file, 100KB) for the event including: Dupont (Master Sponsor), KBR (Eagle Sponsor), Turner Government Services (Dinner Sponsor) and MBP (Hole-in-One Sponsor). Kudos also to our other great sponsors and all the participants who raised additional funds through String and 50/50 raffle ticket sales. Thanks to all our volunteers that helped to make this event happen including Pam Soyka (MBP), Beth McKinley (Froehling & Roberston), Jenny Norton (URS), Ann Hosford (Tetra Tech), Ginny Pond (PBS&J), Anita Hsieh (University of Maryland Scholarship Student) and James Peck (MBP), and Connie Hayes (Manhattan Construction).

Tournament Chair, James Peck, commended all who participated for their spirit and camaraderie in overcoming the elements including the power outage to the clubhouse after the lightning strike on the driving range (yikes!).

After a brief, off-site strategy session with his team mates, Steve Iselin and Matt Carroll, Tournament Chairman James Peck points to the clearing weather and tells Centex VP, Bill McIntosh, of the decision to play on. Hmmm why is he holding an extra pair of shoes?
